Default Quick Question about the HoH?

This maybe the wrong forum to ask, but here goes.

Last night me and a PuG made it to the Golden Altar map in the Hall of Heros, you know the one where its 3 teams facing off against each other.

Everything was going well, two teams were fighting, we went and killed off their priests, , the other twos processed to call us "cheats" and "retards" for doing this, but hey

In anycase we moved in for the kill, left our ghostly behind so he not be killed, killed the red teams ghost, then blues with only 1 min left to go, all seem well. So we moved our ghost onto the altar, he got killed in the last 10 seconds and our team lost.

the other two teams called us all kinds of things... like retards and stuff, this is the reason I hate the tombs so much at times.

Anyways can someone explain to me what we did wrong?

I'm sure I saw a message saying the last person who took the altar was going to win, but maybe I miss read it...

How the hell do you win this map if everyone just stands about for 10 mins, any info would be greatful.

Everyone stands around for 8 minutes because noone has the build to hold for 10 minutes. The point is to cap it at the last few seconds and then win because it takes longer for someone else to cap it then there is on the timer. The people that win it this way wont win the next round because they have no holding capacity.

However the people that charge in and attack at first sight of the altar are the ones you have to worry about. Their build can hold and hold damn well for the rest of the match. If you don't defend your altar at that time, You'll lose it.

I think you played the map perfectly. Turn all chat off and your set.

Courtyard is a three-way alter capping map with priests.

If your priest is killed and you do no control the alter. You will not get free rezzes at every 2 minute mark. If you have the alter capped, the priest will rez at the alter along with all your teammates.

If you lose your Ghostly Hero, be aware of your priest, because if both are dead and you don't control the alter, you cannot win the map.

Generally alter maps consist of 6-7 minutes of standoffs, followed by all out battle at around the 2 minute mark. Last team who caps, wins.

So if we killed all their ghostly heros, and they killed ours as well, how did we manage to lose?

You didn't hold the altar.

No matter who dies, no matter what you kill - in the end, the one who's holding the altar will win.

You didn't cap the altar. The hero has to stand on top of it and be given time to use his claim resource skill. You'll know when he has as it will come up with big green writing "Altar Captured." If you don't see in big red letters "Enemy Captured Altar." Before the time runs out, you win.

Ok for future reference how long does it take for the Ghostly to capture the Altar? And does your ghost respawn if killed?

If you hold the altar, the hero will respawn every 2 minutes on the altar. If you don't hold the altar the hero will only respawn at the priest (if the priest is dead, the hero won't respawn and you lost).

It takes a few seconds to capture the altar. But most times you hero will get interrupted and/or body blocked, so normally you will need much more time.

The timing on an altar map is very important - but it is hard to give advices, because it all depends on what the enemy is running, what he is doing,...

For example: if the enemy has many rangers you won't cap the altar until a few of the rangers are down... Because they will most likely interrupt the hell out of the ghost.

But consider: while interupting the ghost, they can't do anything else, so you have an advantage on damage output...

Best way is to play this maps a few times with a good leader and watching what he does. And then try to lead a group yourself. You will get the timing wrong a lot - but it all also depends on your build. If you can hold the altar long enough, you can cap very early.

And there is this neat 'trick': cap very fast, gank priests and kill heros. After you ganked their priests, their hero won't respawn and you only need to kill their heros for a win. Many IWAY Teams running this strategy.

And another very important thing:
don't kill the priest of the team holding the altar. Kill it only if you expect your team to take the altar before the priest respawns.

Ok great, thanks for all the information. I'm glad we didn't do anything wrong.

All them people were completely out of order, people can be so rude.
